Philosophy for idiots
Lookin’ in through a stained-glass window
At blurry pictures of our lives
Try to teach with their tests
Make us believe our lives are worth a single snap in time
You can’t know the way I see
Will you ever understand?
There’s a reason for the way
that everybody is
If you ever bothered
to look for more than a second
In the picture of my birth
you think you see my destiny
by my friends and family
But I choose who I follow
As we all choose who we are
Destiny is written
after the tale is told
You’ll only know my fate
when I’m growing old
A single word cannot define
that million million memories
that make up you and me
every thought
every second
every single dream
look around and it seems all you see
is INJUSTICE
But take a closer look
There’s more to the world than Darkness
No one writes true stories
Twisting lies so others believe
But if you learn to look
you’ll find there’s some truth
in every legend, every myth
false news and history
tilted recollections
though maybe not the truth you expect
If I am a “mystery”
then you are as well
to all those opposites out there
remember-
Day and night may fight
but it’s still true -
A rainbow is more beautiful
than just plain blue
Every color has a meaning -
so they say
Every month and every country
has its way
even the strangest heroes
will have their day
But maybe
we’re looking too closely
finding meanings that aren’t there
Don’t get me wrong -
it’s all well and good to be patriotic
So sing your song!
But you’re only just one person
in a great big world after all
Sometimes people forget
not everything is someone’s fault
But it’s true
No one thing is responsible
for all the good or all the bad
There are no chosen ones
and nobody
is born bad.
Why push everything to extremes?
Just because blind forgiveness only works in stories
and there are no fairytale endings
that doesn’t change the fact that
an eye for an eye only leaves the whole world blind
The world is not black-and-white
You will find no true Good, true Evil
No matter how many teacups I’ve looked in
I’ve never found any signs of destiny
But if there was a secret plan
and life had no shades of grey
if everything was.. meant to be
what would be the fun in life?
Without all the beautiful colors
that we so love?
Our futures are shaped
by our choices -
so look to the stars for possibility
or see beauty in what’s already there
fly in your dreams
or run fast in real life
There are too many crossroads
for me to write them all out
Sometimes the greatest ripples
come from the things you didn’t think would count.
Just remember —
sometimes, there is no right, no wrong,
no choice that ends better
sometimes it really is
up to you
When you make mistakes
and you will make mistakes
make sure they are your mistakes
because anyone can live a stereotypical life
and anyone can be great
but no one else can be you
and when that happens
know that this is your life
and this world is but
what you perceive it to be
Just because dreams don’t change the worl
unless you make them true
doesn’t mean they weren’t real…
at least to you.
