Moonrise
I see people passing by
Yes they laugh, yes they cry
Let them walk and laugh and cry
Let them pause and shake their heads
Let them pause and turn and sigh
Pass me by, pass me by
I am wrapped up in a mission
Self-appointed task to do
Yes, I know it may seem silly
But what is it to you?
I am sitting in the dark now
Middle of the night
Sitting with a flashlight
Phone on my right side
Sitting here at night
’Cause I am gonna see it
Gonna see the moon rise
Gonna see the moonrise!
They say, “You’ll regret it,”
Instead of, “How d’you do?”
They’ll say, “They’ve gone mad,”
Right in front of you
But I will not regret it
Not in a million years
Because I said ‘I am gonna see the moon rise!’
So I’ll do it,
and do it right.
Tomorrow I got homework,
Way too much to do.
I’ll be feeling tired
Wondering what did I do?
But I think I won’t regret it

When you can’t see the moon rise
because it’s too late for you
Tomorrow I got to study,
Wake up early, almost dawn
Going to school that morning
I’m sure that I will yawn
But tonight, I’m still waiting
And I don’t feel tired at all
Because I’m going to see the moonrise.
And I’m waiting nowhere special
City lights are glowing in the dark
Hear a crackle in the distance
Was that a dog’s bark?
But even then it still feels special
’Cause it’s me and me alone
Though I asked my friends and parents, but they all said no
They say I don’t know what I’m doing
And I think maybe they’re right
But I can’t see the problem
but a couple hours lost from the night
And I told this parents and they shook their heads that night
Didn’t bother explaining, I was wrong, they were right
Yeah I even asked the teachers
But they all looked at me askance
Ain’t no one else who even listened
But a stranger from the dance
They’re waiting at their own house
for the moonrise just like me
(Only good thing ‘bout the dance, ha)
No one danced with me then
But at least I made a friend
I am gonna see the moonrise,
Gonna see it rise tonight
Everyone’s just looking at me like
What you doin’ with your life?
I don’t understand, ’cause video games
internet chats or doodles
they would all have been seen as harmless fun
So what’s the difference with this, then?

No matter what they say
So maybe it didn’t matter in the end
anyway?
